What is modern end user computing?

End user computing refers to the devices, applications and desktop environments that your workforce uses to access business systems and data. It includes physical endpoints such as laptops, desktops, tablets and smartphones, the software installed on them and virtual desktop environments where users access a centrally hosted workspace rather than a local build.

Littlefish Group manages your end user environment using the Microsoft 365 stack, with Microsoft Intune handling device enrolment and policy enforcement, Windows Autopilot for provisioning and Microsoft Defender for endpoint protection. We also take on collaboration governance across Teams and SharePoint, with our UK-based service desk acting as the single point of contact for your users.

Our modern end user computing managed services

Device lifecycle and patch management

Our experts manage the full device lifecycle from provisioning through to retirement. That includes Windows Autopilot enrolment, Intune policy configuration, operating system builds and application packaging across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android estates. Patch cycles are scheduled to balance security urgency against operational continuity.

Application and collaboration management

We package, test and deploy applications across your endpoints through Intune, managing version control, licensing compliance and user-group targeting. Where your modern workplace solutions include Microsoft 365 apps, Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive and Outlook, we handle everything from configuration to governance.

Desktop services

We manage virtual desktop infrastructure and cloud-hosted desktops through Azure Virtual Desktop, taking on deployment, configuration, patching and user access policies. Where physical and virtual desktops coexist, we apply consistent security baselines and configurations so your users get the same experience however they access their work.

End user computing security

Through Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and our CREST-accredited Security Operations Centre, we monitor your devices for threats, investigate alerts, contain incidents and coordinate remediation. This sits alongside our broader managed protection and response capability, providing continuous endpoint security without a dedicated in-house team.

Why organisations outsource modern end user computing

  • Internal IT capacity can’t effectively manage

Managing devices, applications, desktop environments and collaboration platforms across a hybrid workforce requires dedicated resource. For most mid-market organisations, that operational workload scales with every new user, location or platform you add. Outsourcing end user computing services to a specialist team releases that capacity for project and strategic work.

  • Inconsistent configuration introduces security and compliance risk

When devices are built to different standards, applications are patched on different cycles and collaboration tools are governed by different policies across departments, gaps appear. Those gaps create exposure from both a cyber security and regulatory compliance perspective. A managed end user computing environment applies consistent baselines across your full estate.

  • Poor service delivery affects workforce productivity

Slow device provisioning, outdated applications, unreliable desktop environments and extended service desk wait times all have a measurable impact on how effectively your staff can work. That operational friction shows up in lost productivity, increased ticket volumes and reduced confidence in IT as a function.
